Biogas fermenters can only be run economically if the fermentation process is stable. Stability can only be achieved if the main process parameters are monitored professionally and disturbances are detected in time. The aims of „BioGasMonitoring“ are:
· Setup of a monitoring sytem:
In regular intervals samples are taken at numerous biogas plants, and the quality of the gas is measured (CH4, CO2, H2S etc).
· Data will be interpreted scientifically and the huge data pool will allow to judge efficiency of the different plants and to suggest process improvements.
· Service to biogas plants: Through a benchmarking system biogas plant operators will be alerted in case of malfunction, and suggestions for improvements will be made.
· The project is closely linked to the VOC project: VOCs shall be evaluated concerning their indicator functions for biogas processes.
· At the end of the project, a self-financing monitoring unit is to be established
