BioGasProcess

Project management: DI Bernhard Wett

On the micro-scale BioTreaT works on the refinement of biogas related technologies at the microorganism level. Which organisms are present and active in the process of biogas formation may be revealed with the AnaerobChip that is being developed. On the macro-scale, BioTreaT is devoted to the advancement of the BIO4GAS technology developed by the University of Innsbruck and the Austrian Research Centers (ARC). BIO4GAS is a small scale highly efficient 4-chamber wet fermentation technology (<50 kW electrical power). It is perfectly suited for co-digestion of liquid manure with other organic residues.

Bio4gas 4-chamber
Schematic sketch of a 4-chamber (K1-K4) BIO4GAS-plant. Ther e are no moving parts (pumps, propellers etc.) or electronics in the fermenter. Mixing is accomplished by the pressure of the produced gas and the patented "Thermo-Gas-Lift".
MicroArray
MicroArray (AnaerobChip) for diagnosis of methanogens.

The goal of BioTreaT is to make small scale biogas plants more efficient and economic. This will be accomplished on the level of the involved microbes (fungi, bacteria and archaea) and at the level of construction opimization for the reactor. BioTreaT ranges from the development of diagnostic microarrays to the realization of demonstration plants.
